Studie podává přehled plzeňského kronikářství od konce 16. do poloviny 20. století v situaci, kdy chybí oficiální městské kroniky (autoři dochovaných neúředních či poloúředních kronik jsou uvedeni v rozpise), a analýzu pokusů jejich zavedení (mj. v roce 1920 za účasti novináře a statistika J. Schiebla); s obrazovou přílohou (s. 643–648), anglickým resumé a klíčovými slovy (s. 629).
